Best+Halloween+Binge-Watch

Fall nights are becoming chillier and more mischievous as time carries on, this means one thing: Halloween! The Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloweentown, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Shining, and Halloween are the best movies to watch for a Halloween marathon. This combination gives viewers a perfect mix of fantasy, family, and horror to set the mood for the upcoming holiday season. A holiday as amazing as Halloween must be given justice with its films — and that’s what we are here to do.

    1. Though many believe The Nightmare Before Christmas is truly a Christmas movie, the director, Henry Selick, detested that it was truly a Halloween movie about the people of Halloween simply reacting to Christmas. Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown, jeopardizes Christmas (despite his good intentions to spread joy) and must save the day. However, this is what helps make this film one of the best in the Halloween section. This movie is unique and rings in the start of the holiday season in a festive, yet mischievous way. It combines the festive and sweet feelings of Christmas with the spooky and playful characteristics of Halloween through song.  What better way to start the holiday season?
    2. Halloweentown is a childhood classic that not only captures the young spirit of the holiday, but teaches young ones about important lessons. The main characters are Marnie (a rebellious teen,) Dylan (a misunderstood-dorky teen,) and Sophie (a young, sweet, and intelligent child,) who battle evil with each other and their family to save Halloweentown. The movie series is relatable to all audiences while providing children with the fantasy world revolved around the beloved holiday. The movie battles evil with good and shows the importance of family. It is the perfect combination of community, adolescent fun, rebellion, and love. Halloweentown is a movie that brings viewers back to their childhood and has them wishing of being that young age again.
    3. This Steven Spielberg classic shows the blooming friendship between Elliot, a young California teen, and E.T., an alien stranded on Earth. This is a magical story for all and it is rated as one of the best films ever made with its theme revolving around the timeless lesson of friendship. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has its famous scene of sneaking the alien out of the house and dressing him up on Halloween to pull off a master plan. This movie is an adorable, sweet, and unique movie on the love and importance of friendship setting the mood for the holiday season revolving around family and friends. Just make sure to grab some Reese’s Pieces when you watch.
    4. Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, adapted from the novel by Stephen King, follows the story of Jack Torrance. Jack becomes the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado. Therefore, Jack, his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny must reside there while he works through the sinister season. Jack begins to go insane in the isolation, creating a terrifying atmosphere. Other strange occurrences also torment the family in their time there. The classic film brilliantly produces rising tensions between the characters, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats and wondering about the ultimate fate of the family.
    5. John Carpenter’s Halloween is the quintessential Halloween horror movie. After all, the holiday is the movie’s title. The film is centered around the infamous Michael Myers, who murdered his own sister on a Halloween night. Fifteen years later, Michael escapes the sanitarium he was placed in, returns to his home town, and begins stalking high school student Laurie Strode. Halloween keeps viewers engaged as they watch Michael and his gruesome actions on — you guessed it — Halloween night. It is the perfect choice for a good, scary movie that will surely put you in a Halloween mood.
