Femina
Some say to be a woman is to be pliant
But I say to be a woman is to be free
Free from any rules that dare restrict us
At least that’s what it means to me
I pray for the women who are hurt
I speak for the women who cannot talk
I fear for the women who are afraid
To even leave their house to walk
Who knows what lurks
Near every dark turn or corner
That could take a woman’s life in an instant
And leave her loved ones to mourn her
Men claim to protect us
But who will protect us from men?
When we are raped and pillaged
Who will save us then?
They say A woman does not belong on the battlefield
Even though we have been fighting for years
Yet it seems that all we are faced with
Are men and boys who scream and jeer
As a woman I cry
I watch them call me emotional
And I know they will never understand
Our inner turmoil
The men laugh in our faces
They attempt to take our free will
But I refuse to let them have it
I refuse to sit still
I will never stop fighting
Even though they want me to submit
My body is my own
I will not let anyone else take it
Because I say to be a woman is to be free
At least that’s what it means to me
