水平 and 水瓶 sound the same,
But one means water bottle and the other means skill level.
A pear is a pear,
Except for when they mean pairs.
一件 and 意见 sound almost the same,
But one means a piece and the other means a suggestion or a complaint.
Morning dew is beautiful,
But not when the three page essay for homework you forgot to do is due in ten minutes.
Although they sound almost identical,
你要死掉了 is a dire threat on one’s life, and
你钥匙掉了 is an observation made to help someone
You have to use too properly,
Because they are two different words.
的, 地, and 得 all sound the same and mean the same,
But not when they are used with their second sound and second meaning.
When you hear them talking about a mayor,
Just make sure they don’t mean mare.
You can say 一只猫 (a cat) and 一条狗 (a dog),
But never 一只狗 (a dog) and 一条猫 (a cat).
But you can say 一条鱼 (a fish) and 一条狗 (a dog)?
Because fish are clearly more similar to dogs than cats to dogs?
And when you’re sick and they say you have a hoarse voice,
They aren’t calling you a horse, don’t worry.
But if you call your 妈 a 马,
Then that’s exactly what you’d be doing.
Sugar and salt may look the same,
But flower and flour do not.
己 and 已 may also look the same,
But they are definitely not. No. Not in meaning, not in writing, and not in sound.
A dessert is edible,
But a desert is certainly not.
And they’re claiming that 我一把把把把住了。(wǒ yī bǎ bǎ bǎ bǎ zhù le)
Is a full and complete sentence that somehow makes sense?
由于 (yóu yú) means because and 鱿鱼 (yóu yú) means squid.
Because clearly those two words are so similar.

买 (to buy) and 卖 (to sell) not only look very identical,
But sound very similar too: mài and mǎi
They can be easy to remember though,
As you need to buy something, hence the little hat, in order to sell it.
I can accept them all except for the ones that make no sense (which would be all of them unfortunately)
These homophones really affect my stress (in the bad way of course),
I’m sure we equally appreciate homophones and their effect on daily life (which is to say, not at all)
