Hamilton is a world-renowned musical on Broadway and shared across the globe with national tours. This musical was written by none other than the legend himself, Lin Manuel Miranda. Miranda is known for crafting the most articulate and overall incredible projects, ranging from a musical about the founding fathers (Hamilton) to writing music for the famous Disney film Moana. On my trip to New York City, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to experience Lin Manuel Miranda’s magic in The Room Where It Happens, or The Richard Rodgers Theatre. Although it wasn’t the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton, I am still utterly grateful for the opportunity I got to see it, and I am already planning my next trip to the city to see this spectacular show again.
For some background information before I begin with my review, this musical is based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, the famous founding father who fundamentally changed the early history of the United States of America. Miranda also included all of the people who were involved in Hamilton’s life to develop the story further, like George Washington, Eliza Schuyler-Hamilton, John Laurens, and many more. This musical ranges from rap songs to emotionally deep songs with high notes. Popular songs like “My Shot,” “Satisfied,” and “Alexander Hamilton” attracted many into becoming avid fans, including me. Talented actors and actresses showcased their talents in the musical, like Jonathan Groff, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and everybody else in the cast.
Moving on, I’d like to add my 2 cents to my thoughts about this musical. For starters, Hamilton: The Musical is the best-written musical ever, in my opinion. I know some may not agree with me, as there are many classic and incredible musicals out there, like Wicked or Phantom of the Opera. However, Hamilton is just that good. It is the musical that got me interested in musical theater itself. Before I got the chance to see the musical in person, I would always rely on the Disney+ Pro-Shot of the musical or listen to the cast album, but seeing it in person truly just made me fall in love with it all over again. The musicality of this production is simply phenomenal. I truly believe that nothing in the world can top this show. Even though it wasn’t the original cast, it was still just as remarkable, as it is impossible to mess up this great of a musical. The fact I am longing to see it again in the future shows how big of an impact this show leaves on everybody after seeing it. Every single person on the stage poured their heart and soul into their performance; with the acting being top-notch, emotions through the roof, and the singing being completely flawless.
In essence, I am so grateful that I was able to see this phenomenal show. This is my favorite musical of all time; and for good reason. The acting in this production is so heartfelt and makes me feel and ponder so much. I cried so much during the songs It’s Quiet Uptown and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story because they left such a strong and emotional message to the audience, leaving everyone feeling intense and overwhelming emotions. I am already planning to see it again in the near future because it was just so amazing, and I want to re-experience the magic of this production. As King George III sang, You’ll Be Back. My two cents are that everybody should Take a Break and see this musical at least once in their life. After all, you can’t Say No to This.
