How To Deal With Procrastination

Medina Kazani

Procrastination is something that is extremely difficult to avoid, especially in high school. With daunting tasks to complete and deadlines to meet, procrastination thrives as we try our best to run away from our responsibilities. I personally struggle greatly with procrastination, so I wanted to write about ways that we could deal with it, as there is no way to truly overcome procrastination. I hope that these ideas will help!

Firstly, it is very important to understand the reasons why you procrastinate. Is it because you feel stressed? Do you get easily distracted? Or do you simply not wish to do what needs to be done? Identifying these reasons will allow you to tackle procrastination head-on. After evaluating your reasons, you should then:

  1. Prioritize what you need to complete – figure out what needs to be completed first (what has the closest deadline) and what is most important
  2. Eliminate distractions
  3. Set time aside for leisure activities – you will be less likely to want to procrastinate if you give yourself time to enjoy the things you like
  4. Create a schedule with set increments of time for each task
  5. Split up tasks into smaller portions – that way you will not leave everything until the last minute, and you will be able to manage your time better
