Winter Break. The time of year that every student looks forward to the moment they step in the building for the first day of school. Although this long-anticipated time off of school is always well spent, you may find yourself bored quickly, especially after Christmas. There are many overlooked activities that can keep you occupied as you enjoy your well-deserved break.

  1. Baking

Baking fun holiday-themed treats on a cold winter day creates a cozy aura. A plethora of recipe websites (some of which will be linked below) have great ideas to spice things up in your kitchen. Some ideas include:

  • Gingerbread Cookies
  • Yule Log
  • Cookie Bars
  • Christmas-Themed Chocolate Covered Pretzels

2. Deep cleaning

During school, students’ time is occupied by homework and extracurricular activities leaving almost no time for cleaning. Mostly because of procrastination… As a fresh start to the new year, deep cleaning your room and house will clear the atmosphere.

Ideas to try:

  • Reorganizing drawers/cabinets
  • Cleaning surfaces and windows
  • Cleaning out your closet
  • Rearranging Furniture

3. Six Flags Holiday in the Park

Just like Fright Fest, Six Flags offers an amazing experience at their theme park for the holidays, “Holiday in the Park.” With new types of holiday themed food, shining lights, and more holiday attractions, this is an opportunity you can’t miss. Spend a day taking photos with Santa, experiencing the Merry Light Show, and driving through the highly-anticipated Drive-Thru where families can drive through the park and experience the holidays in the comfort of their vehicles.

4. Winter-Only Activities (skiing, snowtubing, ice skating, snowboarding)

New Jersey and other east coast states have spectacular opportunities to enjoy the new snowfall. Skiing in Vermont or Maine to experience the mountains is a great winter getaway for family and friends. Ice Skating at the Jersey Shore, Old Bridge, or Howell Arena is a quick daily activity to exercise and have fun. Although you may be an avid skier, trying to snowboard and taking lessons is an easy way to try something new and possibly find something you love. The American Dream Mall in New Jersey offers small slopes as well as a fun snow-tubing adventure, located in East Rutherford.

5. Christmas Movie Marathon

And of course, the last thing on this list is a Christmas Movie Marathon…

Some of the best movies can be found on Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus. They include but are not limited to:

  • The Grinch
  • Elf
  • The Princess Switch
  • Love Hard
  • Polar Express
  • The Holiday
  • The Christmas Chronicles
  • Almost Christmas
  • North Pole

Enjoy this year’s chilly winter break and try some of these activities!
