Roe v. Wade 2022

Roe v. Wade 2022

Recently, a Supreme Court document was leaked. This document stated the intention of the Court to overturn the decision made in the case of Roe v. Wade in 1973. The ruling established that women have the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion. However, this right has been limited by many state governments that are against abortion by allowing women to get an abortion only in specific stages of their pregnancy. Americans are extremely divided over this issue for many differing reasons, and once the document came out, people decided to protest for their beliefs. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has previously stated that, “‘Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences …’” (politico.com). This similar belief among the justices is the driving force behind this intention to change the case. If this case is overturned, it would have an immense impact on women, as “Nearly 1 in 4 women in the U.S. are expected to get an abortion at some point in their lives, according to a 2017 study” (npr.org). Additionally, abortion may become illegal in multiple states. But, we can only wait to see the final conclusion the Court presents.
