In today’s day and age, comfort is all the rage. Unfortunately, it can be exceedingly difficult to reconcile form and function. This is why Lululemon Athletica has been able to achieve top-notch ratings in a few short years. Lululemon is an athletic clothing brand that was founded by Chip Wilson in 1998 in Vancouver, Canada. Originally, Lululemon predominantly sold yoga pants but also included other yoga wear. Today, not only do they sell athletic pants, tops, shorts, and jackets, but they have recently expanded to include accessories and personal care products, like fanny packs and skincare.  

Like any successful brand, lululemon can be purchased nearly anywhere in the country. Lululemon’s stores are now a staple in most shopping malls as well as department stores, which sell the surplus inventory for a (often) cheaper price. However, for customers who can’t or won’t go in person, Lululemon’s website offers a way to order products online and have them delivered right to your home.

 Advertisements for Lululemon are seemingly omnipresent, spanning from social media ads to giant posters in malls. However, the most important advertisement they employ is word-of-mouth marketing, wherein Lululemon customers tell others about the brand, fondly dubbed “Lulu”, thereby recruiting new customers. 

After close to 26 years in business, it’s safe to say the Lulu Executives know their way around their target market. The annual revenue for 2024 was $9.619B, an 18.6% increase from 2023. In 2021, ranked Lululemon fourth for the world’s most valuable brands. And while they do not participate in the NYSE, stocks can be purchased/traded by under the name LULU. 

Lululemon’s main money maker is the Align Legging. On the surface, it’s simple. The real genius of the pants lies in the fibers of the fabric. They are made from Nulu fabric, which is 81% Nylon and 19% Lycra elastane. The result? A soft, smooth legging that has just enough support to hug you in all the right places. As the editors of Today say, it’s like a “second skin”. 

Overall, Lululemon Athletica is an athletics company founded over twenty-five years ago but still holds relevance today. Thanks to its wide variety of products and abundant ingenuity, Lululemon has not only survived but thrived in the modern world.
