If Only I Had Told Her by Laura Nowlin is a sequel to If He Had Been With Me, and I’d strongly advise not to continue reading this review if you haven’t yet read the first book. The second book starts with Finny’s perspective of some of the events from the first book, such as his relationship with Autumn, but it also gives readers a deeper understanding of the complexity of his character and his relationship with Sylvie. The story eventually leads up to the tragedy that ends the first book: the car accident. Following the accident, the novel then transitions into Jack’s perspective where the reader is finally able to understand more about him as a person, as well as see how he adjusts to life without his best friend. Lastly, the book once again transitions perspectives, this time to the perspective of Autumn. It shows Autumn’s struggle to adjust to life without her best friend and true love, as well as her preparation to have and raise their baby without him.
