It’s black history month, many figures inspire
To the occasion they rose, to the heights they aspire
Like MLK jr, Kathrine J and many more
They chose to stand up, not to ignore
The problems they faced, and we still face now
They chose to rise, injustice they didn’t allow
Inventions they created, books they wrote
One of them was president, because of our vote
This serves to prove, they can do astonishing things
To help escapees, to dance, and to sing
They chose to help us, and everyone around
With their inspirational speeches, their findings profound
They chose to be them, to stand for what’s right
And in their darkness, their actions were light
Black History Month recognizes these heroes
They helped the world, our freedom, we owe
