Whether you are looking to get NHS hours, add something meaningful to your college application, or just get involved, there are many local volunteer opportunities. First, is the Colts Neck Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB). This program meets once a month on a Tuesday, and volunteers work to come up with new ideas to better the library, from planning events to creating decorations. Send an email to the email address listed below for more information.
Another great volunteer opportunity is Friendship Circle. At Friendship Circle, volunteers are paired with a buddy with special needs, and you play games, do crafts, dance, and many other activities with them. There are multiple program opportunities, such as their two Sunday programs (Sunday mornings and Sunday nights), as well as their Friends at Home program, where the days and times are more flexible. Friendship Circle also has its yearly winter camp coming up, which takes place during four days of winter break. At winter camp, volunteers are paired with a buddy with special needs and spend the day with them. Two of the days are at Friendship Circle’s normal location, and two of the days are trips (Urban Air and the FunPlex). For more information, visit the website linked below.
Lastly, there is a program called Just4Kix that runs in the spring and fall. At Just4Kix, volunteers are paired with younger kids with special needs, and they work with the kid on a number of things such as obstacle courses and basic soccer skills. See the link below to register for the spring season!
