Many of us put vast pressure upon ourselves. We are aware of society’s high standards, therefore doing everything possible to meet them. When we make a mistake or say the wrong thing, this is often when we forget what makes us great people. I am Max Tapper, and I am here to give you, my fellow students, some advice on how to show love for who you are.
1. Be Passionate About Your Talents
Everyone can find something that they are good at, they just need to acknowledge it. Some people may feel insecure about what their talents may be, a perspective that I know all too well. No matter how many keys you miss, you must show the world what you can do. As you engage in your talents, try to just enjoy yourself and not worry about perfection. Praise helps, but you need to know for yourself that you are doing fine.
2. Celebrate Your Accomplishments
We have all come a long way in our young lives. Whether or not you ever won a trophy, you did things to be proud of. Everyone has a separate idea of what an accomplishment is, some believing that they do not have any. That is just not true. Even in self-doubt, take a moment to consider instances where your words or actions had a positive impact on other people. That is the greatest accomplishment of all.
3. Engage in Positive, Honest Self-Talk
Some days you feel like a king, and others you may just want to quit. These feelings are inevitable throughout life but require management to appreciate your most valuable qualities. If you want to scream at yourself for not being as smart or pretty as other classmates, do not. Tell yourself that as long as you try your hardest to be a decent person, you are enough. Any ridicule or harassment you face is ultimately powerless.
4. Give Yourself Breathing Room
I have pushed myself to complete an excessive amount of work in a short period far too many times. This has frequently resulted in the opposite of productivity, that is, immense levels of stress. If you think you need a break, you need a break. Do not force yourself to get everything done in one sitting. No one deserves that. It is okay if the final product is not perfect, as long as you have applied true effort.
5. Do What Makes You Happy
Our thoughts and feelings reflect our unique interests and hobbies. If you find yourself nervously kicking through an ocean of responsibilities, you have not dedicated genuine time to enjoy life. Sitting down to play the piano is my escape from any clamorous gathering or information avalanche. A round of cards may not seem to match with final exams, but it trades anxiety for confidence and determination.
