Broadway has become tremendously popular over the past few years, with new and captivating ideas represented in shows. New up-and-coming Broadway shows like The Great Gatsby Musical, The Outsiders Musical, and The Notebook Musical have started to become very well-known in the Broadway industry. While I have only seen one musical in my life, The Outsiders Musical, I can say with confidence that there is nothing better than going to see a Broadway show. The experience of being in the city is one of the main reasons why I love musicals so much. Seeing enthralling shows with the most talented actors in elegant theaters is simply the best feeling there is. That being said, I will be discussing my favorite popular Broadway Shows, and what makes them favorable compared to the rest.
To begin, my all-time favorite Broadway show, which I think many will be able to agree with, is Hamilton. The music, stage production, actors, and plot of the entire musical are simply one of a kind. This Broadway show is very popular, as one can see by the fact it has been on Broadway since 2015. Hamilton is the Broadway show that got me interested in musical theater as a whole. I am a big fan of history, and this musical is perfect at representing earlyU.S. history while making it entertaining. It is one of my dream musicals to see, especially with the Original Broadway Cast. Some of my favorite cast members from Hamilton are Lin Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Phillipa Soo. Overall, I love Hamilton so much, and it is my favorite musical of all time.
Another popular Broadway show that is one of my favorites is The Outsiders Musical. As most students did, I read The Outsiders in 8th grade as it was part of the curriculum for most schools. It was, and still is, one of my favorite books I have ever read. This musical just made me fall in love with the book all over again. The cast was absolutely amazing, and I could just tell how passionate they were about performing. All of them presented so much talent throughout the entire performance. I also stage-doored after the performance, and I got to meet most of the cast. It was an experience of a lifetime. Overall, the cast, music, lyrics, and performance were incredible. I wish I could see this show again.
Last but not least, a popular Broadway musical that I really want to see is The Great Gatsby. While I haven’t gotten the chance to see it yet, I can just tell it is amazing. I have listened to the entire tracklist, and I already love it. Some of my favorite songs include My Green Light, Roaring On, and The Past is Catching Up with Me. I hope I am lucky enough to be able to see it in person one day.
In essence, this list was definitely very hard to narrow down, as there are so many other amazing Broadway musicals out there, such as The Notebook, Hadestown, and Six. The three musicals that I chose as my favorites have deeply resonated with me from aspects like the cast, music, lyrics, and overall performances. If you haven’t seen any of the musicals I listed, I absolutely encourage you to go and see them. They are truly masterpieces that everyone needs to see at least once in their lifetime
