When you think of Fall animal migrations, you most likely think of birds flying south for the winter. However, there are so many more animals that migrate hundreds of miles, and still manage to look as elegant as they ever have before!
In north-central Tanzania, there are some unexpected animals that migrate more than 1,500 kilometers across the Serengeti, to reach the Mara National Reserve in Kenya. These animals are none other than the beautiful patterned horses, the zebras. However, there is another animal that accompanies them on their journey, and that’s the… wildebeest? Yup, zebra and wildebeest travel to the same destination all in the same mega herd, but what makes these animals so elegant as they make their migration? Well, it’s not only the sheer number of them, moving through different landscapes, but also how they represent unity within the animal kingdom, and how nature is intertwined in so many different ways! Some people that have witnessed this migration say that “There were so many of them it was actually difficult to process what was going on. Truly breathtaking.” said Tom Gibson of “Responsible Travel”, or “The migration is a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings. It’s also a reminder of the importance of : Resilience, Hope, Community, Working together towards a shared goal…” stated “Ishara.ke”. This migration may not embellish beauty as a whole, but it sure is stunning in many different ways!
A truly stunning migration to see starts around Christmas… wait, the title of this article is “Fall Animal Migrations Are More Stunning Than Ever!”, not winter! Hold on, this next migration does start around Christmas, but not the holiday sort of Christmas, the island of Christmas! The migration of the red crabs in Australia spans across the entire length of Christmas Island! Unlike the last migration, this one truly is stunning, as these red crabs seem as if a warm velvet blanket gets spread across the island! There are around 120 million red crabs that migrate, which as you can imagine, causes quite the inconvenience to the citizens! Citizens have to take debtors on rodes, sell their doors, and try not to step on a crab on a daily walk!
As you can see, fall migrations help unite people, and show them that no matter what, we are all together on this wonderful planet, and should appreciate every STUNNING wonder that we get to witness!
